Although I was not the editor for our documentary, which has taken up the bulk of the post production process, every member of our group is important for pitching ideas for the final cut and has direct influence over the editing process.
Using our group chat which was hosted on Whatsapp, we would post bits of research and ideas to the rest of the group, with enriched the ideas that we could come up with and increased synergy. This was vital because we had a lot of documents to get together and update as our project evolved. Furthermore, our editor would post cuts or parts of the edit that they felt needed to be discuss, wherein the rest of the group members could watch, suggest immediate ideas or fixes, and praise parts that they liked.
In our group, we hosted frequent online meetings in order to discuss progress on the various documents we had to complete, this extending to the editing process. During these meetings we would review the cut and discuss how sections could be rearranged or how scene structure could be altered. For example, placing the wealth of VHS footage in the cut was an extremely difficult task that required a lot of discussion, and getting the effect right so that it did not look jarring was challenging too.
Overall, despite not being a direct contributor to the edits, I felt that I made a large impact on the process and was able to pose my own ideas and influence the general flow of the project. Furthermore, keeping the documents surrounding the project updated with new details was also a valuable contribution.
